GeForce RTX 2070 vs GeForce RTX 4070 Ti

Intro

The GeForce RTX 2070 features core clock speeds of 1410 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 2304 SPUs as well as 144 Texture Address Units and 64 ROPs.

Compare that to the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, which has core speeds of 2310 MHz on the GPU, and 1313 MHz on the 12288 MB of GDDR6X RAM. It features 7680 SPUs along with 240 Texture Address Units and 80 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce RTX 2070 175 Watts
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 285 Watts
Difference: 110 Watts (63%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti should be a small bit faster than the GeForce RTX 2070 in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 516096 MB/sec
GeForce RTX 2070 458752 MB/sec
Difference: 57344 (13%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is a lot (more or less 173%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce RTX 2070. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 554400 Mtexels/sec
GeForce RTX 2070 203040 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 351360 (173%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is superior to the GeForce RTX 2070, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 184800 Mpixels/sec
GeForce RTX 2070 90240 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 94560 (105%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in one second. The number is worked out by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
