Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 1630 75 Watts
GeForce GTX 870M 110 Watts
Difference: 35 Watts (47%)

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce GTX 1630, in theory, should perform a little bit faster than the GeForce GTX 870M in general. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1630 98304 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 870M 96000 MB/sec
Difference: 2304 (2%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 870M will be a lot (approximately 89%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTX 1630. (explain)

GeForce GTX 870M 105392 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 55680 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 49712 (89%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 1630 is the winner, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1630 27840 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 870M 22584 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 5256 (23%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
