Radeon RX 5700 vs Radeon RX 6750 XT

Intro

The Radeon RX 5700 makes use of a 7 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 1465 MHz. The GDDR6 memory works at a speed of 1750 MHz on this model. It features 2304 SPUs along with 144 TAUs and 64 ROPs.

Compare that to the Radeon RX 6750 XT, which features a clock frequency of 2150 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 2250 MHz. It also makes use of a 192-bit bus, and uses a 7 nm design. It features 2560 SPUs, 160 TAUs, and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 5700 180 Watts
Radeon RX 6750 XT 250 Watts
Difference: 70 Watts (39%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon RX 5700 will be 4% quicker than the Radeon RX 6750 XT overall, because of its higher data rate. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 458752 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6750 XT 442368 MB/sec
Difference: 16384 (4%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT is much (more or less 63%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon RX 5700. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 344000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 5700 210960 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 133040 (63%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6750 XT is superior to the Radeon RX 5700, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 137600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 5700 93760 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 43840 (47%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface within a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
