GeForce RTX 4070 Ti vs Nvidia Titan Xp

Intro

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti uses a 4 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core frequency at 2310 MHz. The GDDR6X memory works at a frequency of 1313 MHz on this particular card. It features 7680 SPUs along with 240 TAUs and 80 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare that to the Nvidia Titan Xp, which features a core clock speed of 1582 MHz and a GDDR5X memory speed of 1426 MHz. It also uses a 384-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 16 nm design. It features 3840 SPUs, 240 Texture Address Units, and 96 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Nvidia Titan Xp 250 Watts
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 285 Watts
Difference: 35 Watts (14%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Nvidia Titan Xp should theoretically be just a bit better than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti in general. (explain)

Nvidia Titan Xp 560845 MB/sec
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 516096 MB/sec
Difference: 44749 (9%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti should be much (about 46%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Nvidia Titan Xp. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 554400 Mtexels/sec
Nvidia Titan Xp 379680 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 174720 (46%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is a better choice, by far. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 184800 Mpixels/sec
Nvidia Titan Xp 151872 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 32928 (22%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
