Radeon RX 460 vs Radeon RX 6750 XT

Intro

The Radeon RX 460 comes with core speeds of 1090 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 4096 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 896 SPUs along with 56 TAUs and 16 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 6750 XT, which makes use of a 7 nm design. AMD has set the core speed at 2150 MHz. The GDDR6 memory works at a frequency of 2250 MHz on this particular model. It features 2560 SPUs along with 160 TAUs and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 460 75 Watts
Radeon RX 6750 XT 250 Watts
Difference: 175 Watts (233%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon RX 6750 XT should theoretically be much better than the Radeon RX 460 in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 442368 MB/sec
Radeon RX 460 112000 MB/sec
Difference: 330368 (295%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT should be a lot (more or less 464%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Radeon RX 460. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 344000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 460 61040 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 282960 (464%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6750 XT is superior to the Radeon RX 460, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 137600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 460 17440 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 120160 (689%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in one second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
