GeForce RTX 3080 vs Radeon RX 6750 XT

Intro

The GeForce RTX 3080 features a clock speed of 1440 MHz and a GDDR6X memory frequency of 1188 MHz. It also makes use of a 320-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 8 nm design. It is comprised of 8704 SPUs, 272 TAUs, and 96 Raster Operation Units.

Compare that to the Radeon RX 6750 XT, which features a clock speed of 2150 MHz and a GDDR6 memory speed of 2250 MHz. It also makes use of a 192-bit bus, and makes use of a 7 nm design. It is made up of 2560 SPUs, 160 TAUs, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 250 Watts
GeForce RTX 3080 320 Watts
Difference: 70 Watts (28%)

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce RTX 3080 should in theory be quite a bit faster than the Radeon RX 6750 XT in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 778547 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6750 XT 442368 MB/sec
Difference: 336179 (76%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 3080 should be a little bit (approximately 14%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Radeon RX 6750 XT. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 391680 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6750 XT 344000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 47680 (14%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 3080 is the winner, but it probably won't make a huge difference. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 138240 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 6750 XT 137600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 640 (0%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics chip could possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
