GeForce GTX 1050 vs GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1050 has a GPU clock speed of 1354 MHz, and the 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory runs at 1750 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is comprised of 640 Stream Processors, 40 Texture Address Units, and 32 ROPs.

Compare all that to the GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB, which features a core clock frequency of 1260 MHz and a GDDR6X memory speed of 1188 MHz. It also features a 384-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 8 nm design. It features 8960 SPUs, 280 TAUs, and 112 ROPs.

GeForce GTX 1050 75 Watts
GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB 350 Watts
Difference: 275 Watts (367%)

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB, in theory, should perform much faster than the GeForce GTX 1050 overall. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB 934298 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 114688 MB/sec
Difference: 819610 (715%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB should be much (more or less 551%) better at AF than the GeForce GTX 1050. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB 352800 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 54160 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 298640 (551%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB is a better choice, and very much so. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB 141120 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 43328 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 97792 (226%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (in units of megabytes per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in one second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
