Radeon R9 Fury X vs Radeon RX 6500 XT

Intro

The Radeon R9 Fury X features a clock speed of 1050 MHz and a HBM memory speed of 500 MHz. It also makes use of a 4096-bit bus, and makes use of a 28 nm design. It features 4096 SPUs, 256 TAUs, and 64 ROPs.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 6500 XT, which comes with GPU clock speed of 2200 MHz, and 4096 MB of GDDR6 RAM set to run at 2250 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also features 1024 SPUs, 64 Texture Address Units, and 32 ROPs.

Radeon R9 Fury X 275 Watts
Difference: 168 Watts (157%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon R9 Fury X should theoretically be a lot faster than the Radeon RX 6500 XT in general. (explain)

Radeon R9 Fury X 512000 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 147456 MB/sec
Difference: 364544 (247%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R9 Fury X should be quite a bit (about 91%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Radeon RX 6500 XT. (explain)

Radeon R9 Fury X 268800 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 140800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 128000 (91%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6500 XT will be a little bit (approximately 5%) more effective at anti-aliasing than the Radeon R9 Fury X, and also capable of handling higher screen resolutions while still performing well. (explain)

Radeon RX 6500 XT 70400 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R9 Fury X 67200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 3200 (5%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface within a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
