GeForce GTX 1050 Ti vs Radeon RX 6500 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti features clock speeds of 1290 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 4096 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 768 SPUs as well as 48 TAUs and 32 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 6500 XT, which has core clock speeds of 2200 MHz on the GPU, and 2250 MHz on the 4096 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 1024 SPUs along with 64 TAUs and 32 ROPs.

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 75 Watts
Radeon RX 6500 XT 107 Watts
Difference: 32 Watts (43%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon RX 6500 XT should in theory be much superior to the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 6500 XT 147456 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 114688 MB/sec
Difference: 32768 (29%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6500 XT is a lot (about 127%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. (explain)

Radeon RX 6500 XT 140800 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 61920 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 78880 (127%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6500 XT is much (about 71%) better at AA than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, and capable of handling higher screen resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

Radeon RX 6500 XT 70400 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 41280 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 29120 (71%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in a second. It's calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card could possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
