GeForce RTX 3070 Ti vs Radeon HD 3690/3830

Intro

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti makes use of a 8 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 1575 MHz. The GDDR6X RAM works at a speed of 1188 MHz on this particular card. It features 6144 SPUs as well as 192 TAUs and 96 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 3690/3830, which comes with core speeds of 668 MHz on the GPU, and 828 MHz on the 256 MB of GDDR3 RAM. It features 320(64x5) SPUs as well as 16 TAUs and 16 ROPs.

Theoretically speaking, the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti should be 2251% quicker than the Radeon HD 3690/3830 overall, because of its greater bandwidth. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 622899 MB/sec
Radeon HD 3690/3830 26496 MB/sec
Difference: 596403 (2251%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is much (about 2729%) better at AF than the Radeon HD 3690/3830. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 302400 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 3690/3830 10688 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 291712 (2729%)

Pixel Rate

If using high levels of AA is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is a better choice, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 151200 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 3690/3830 10688 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 140512 (1315%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
