GeForce RTX 3070 Ti vs Geforce GTX 770

Intro

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti uses a 8 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 1575 MHz. The GDDR6X RAM works at a speed of 1188 MHz on this particular model. It features 6144 SPUs along with 192 TAUs and 96 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specs to the Geforce GTX 770, which features core clock speeds of 1046 MHz on the GPU, and 1753 MHz on the 2048 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 1536 SPUs as well as 128 Texture Address Units and 32 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Geforce GTX 770 230 Watts
GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 290 Watts
Difference: 60 Watts (26%)

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti should theoretically be a lot faster than the Geforce GTX 770 in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 622899 MB/sec
Geforce GTX 770 224384 MB/sec
Difference: 398515 (178%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti will be a lot (more or less 126%) better at anisotropic filtering than the Geforce GTX 770. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 302400 Mtexels/sec
Geforce GTX 770 133888 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 168512 (126%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is the winner, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 151200 Mpixels/sec
Geforce GTX 770 33472 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 117728 (352%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
