GeForce RTX 3060 vs Nvidia Titan Xp

Intro

The GeForce RTX 3060 comes with a GPU clock speed of 1320 MHz, and the (Unknown) MB of GDDR6 memory is set to run at 1875 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also features 3584 Stream Processors, 112 TAUs, and 48 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Nvidia Titan Xp, which features core speeds of 1582 MHz on the GPU, and 1426 MHz on the 12288 MB of GDDR5X memory. It features 3840 SPUs as well as 240 Texture Address Units and 96 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce RTX 3060 170 Watts
Nvidia Titan Xp 250 Watts
Difference: 80 Watts (47%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Nvidia Titan Xp should in theory be much superior to the GeForce RTX 3060 overall. (explain)

Nvidia Titan Xp 560845 MB/sec
GeForce RTX 3060 368640 MB/sec
Difference: 192205 (52%)

Texel Rate

The Nvidia Titan Xp should be much (about 157%) better at AF than the GeForce RTX 3060. (explain)

Nvidia Titan Xp 379680 Mtexels/sec
GeForce RTX 3060 147840 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 231840 (157%)

Pixel Rate

The Nvidia Titan Xp is quite a bit (about 140%) more effective at AA than the GeForce RTX 3060, and will be capable of handling higher screen resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

Nvidia Titan Xp 151872 Mpixels/sec
GeForce RTX 3060 63360 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 88512 (140%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
