GeForce GTX 650 vs Radeon RX 6900 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 650 has a core clock frequency of 1058 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 1250 MHz. It also makes use of a 128-bit memory bus, and uses a 28 nm design. It is comprised of 384 SPUs, 32 Texture Address Units, and 16 ROPs.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which comes with a GPU core clock speed of 1825 MHz, and 16384 MB of GDDR6 memory set to run at 2000 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is comprised of 5120 Stream Processors, 320 TAUs, and 128 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 650 64 Watts
Radeon RX 6900 XT 300 Watts
Difference: 236 Watts (369%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon RX 6900 XT is 555% faster than the GeForce GTX 650 in general, because of its higher bandwidth. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 524288 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 650 80000 MB/sec
Difference: 444288 (555%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6900 XT should be a lot (about 1625%) better at AF than the GeForce GTX 650. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 584000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 650 33856 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 550144 (1625%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6900 XT is superior to the GeForce GTX 650, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 233600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 650 16928 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 216672 (1280%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in a second. It's calculated by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
