GeForce GTX Titan vs Radeon RX 6900 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX Titan features clock speeds of 837 MHz on the GPU, and 1502 MHz on the 6144 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 2688 SPUs along with 224 TAUs and 48 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which has a core clock frequency of 1825 MHz and a GDDR6 memory speed of 2000 MHz. It also uses a 256-bit memory bus, and uses a 7 nm design. It is made up of 5120 SPUs, 320 TAUs, and 128 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX Titan 250 Watts
Radeon RX 6900 XT 300 Watts
Difference: 50 Watts (20%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 6900 XT should in theory be a lot faster than the GeForce GTX Titan overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 524288 MB/sec
GeForce GTX Titan 288384 MB/sec
Difference: 235904 (82%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6900 XT will be much (approximately 211%) more effective at texture filtering than the GeForce GTX Titan. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 584000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX Titan 187488 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 396512 (211%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6900 XT is the winner, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 233600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX Titan 40176 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 193424 (481%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR type RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
