Geforce GTX 680 vs Radeon RX 6800 XT

Intro

The Geforce GTX 680 has a GPU clock speed of 1006 MHz, and the 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory is set to run at 1502 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is comprised of 1536 SPUs, 128 TAUs, and 32 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 6800 XT, which has clock speeds of 1825 MHz on the GPU, and 2000 MHz on the 16384 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 4608 SPUs as well as 288 TAUs and 128 ROPs.

Geforce GTX 680 195 Watts
Radeon RX 6800 XT 300 Watts
Difference: 105 Watts (54%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon RX 6800 XT will be 173% quicker than the Geforce GTX 680 in general, because of its higher data rate. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 524288 MB/sec
Geforce GTX 680 192256 MB/sec
Difference: 332032 (173%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6800 XT should be a lot (about 308%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the Geforce GTX 680. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 525600 Mtexels/sec
Geforce GTX 680 128768 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 396832 (308%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6800 XT is much (approximately 626%) more effective at full screen anti-aliasing than the Geforce GTX 680, and also should be capable of handling higher resolutions better. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 233600 Mpixels/sec
Geforce GTX 680 32192 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 201408 (626%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
