GeForce GTS 450 1GB vs Radeon RX 5500 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTS 450 1GB uses a 40 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 783 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM is set to run at a frequency of 902 MHz on this model. It features 192 SPUs as well as 32 TAUs and 16 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 5500 XT, which has core speeds of 1717 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 1408 SPUs as well as 88 TAUs and 32 ROPs.

Radeon RX 5500 XT 130 Watts
Difference: 24 Watts (23%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon RX 5500 XT should theoretically be quite a bit superior to the GeForce GTS 450 1GB overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 5500 XT 229376 MB/sec
GeForce GTS 450 1GB 57728 MB/sec
Difference: 171648 (297%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5500 XT should be much (more or less 503%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTS 450 1GB. (explain)

Radeon RX 5500 XT 151096 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTS 450 1GB 25056 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 126040 (503%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 5500 XT will be quite a bit (more or less 339%) more effective at AA than the GeForce GTS 450 1GB, and will be able to handle higher screen resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

Radeon RX 5500 XT 54944 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTS 450 1GB 12528 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 42416 (339%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in a second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
