Radeon R5 M330 vs Radeon RX 5500 XT

Intro

The Radeon R5 M330 makes use of a 28 nm design. AMD has set the core frequency at 1030 MHz. The DDR3 RAM runs at a speed of 900 MHz on this model. It features 320 SPUs as well as 20 TAUs and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 5500 XT, which comes with a core clock speed of 1717 MHz and a GDDR6 memory speed of 1750 MHz. It also makes use of a 128-bit bus, and makes use of a 7 nm design. It features 1408 SPUs, 88 Texture Address Units, and 32 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 5500 XT should theoretically perform much faster than the Radeon R5 M330 overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 5500 XT 229376 MB/sec
Radeon R5 M330 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 214976 (1493%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5500 XT will be quite a bit (approximately 633%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon R5 M330. (explain)

Radeon RX 5500 XT 151096 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R5 M330 20600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 130496 (633%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon RX 5500 XT is a better choice, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon RX 5500 XT 54944 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R5 M330 8240 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 46704 (567%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
