Radeon RX 5500 XT vs Radeon RX 5600

Intro

The Radeon RX 5500 XT comes with a GPU clock speed of 1717 MHz, and the 8192 MB of GDDR6 memory runs at 1750 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also features 1408 Stream Processors, 88 Texture Address Units, and 32 ROPs.

Compare that to the Radeon RX 5600, which features a clock speed of 1375 MHz and a GDDR6 memory speed of 1500 MHz. It also makes use of a 192-bit bus, and makes use of a 7 nm design. It is made up of 2048 SPUs, 128 Texture Address Units, and 64 ROPs.

Radeon RX 5500 XT 130 Watts
Radeon RX 5600 150 Watts
Difference: 20 Watts (15%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Radeon RX 5600 should theoretically be a lot better than the Radeon RX 5500 XT in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 294912 MB/sec
Radeon RX 5500 XT 229376 MB/sec
Difference: 65536 (29%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5600 is a little bit (about 16%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon RX 5500 XT. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 176000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 5500 XT 151096 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 24904 (16%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 5600 should be quite a bit (approximately 60%) better at AA than the Radeon RX 5500 XT, and should be able to handle higher screen resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 88000 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 5500 XT 54944 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 33056 (60%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in a second. It is calculated by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card could possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
