Radeon HD 3650 512MB vs Radeon RX 5700

Intro

The Radeon HD 3650 512MB comes with a clock speed of 725 MHz and a GDDR3 memory speed of 800 MHz. It also uses a 128-bit bus, and uses a 55 nm design. It features 120(24x5) SPUs, 8 TAUs, and 4 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 5700, which has a GPU core clock speed of 1465 MHz, and 8096 MB of GDDR6 memory set to run at 1750 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is made up of 2304 Stream Processors, 144 TAUs, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the Radeon RX 5700 should be quite a bit faster than the Radeon HD 3650 512MB in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 458752 MB/sec
Radeon HD 3650 512MB 25600 MB/sec
Difference: 433152 (1692%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5700 will be a lot (about 3537%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon HD 3650 512MB. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 210960 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 3650 512MB 5800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 205160 (3537%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon RX 5700 is a better choice, by a large margin. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 93760 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 3650 512MB 2900 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 90860 (3133%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
