Radeon HD 3650 vs Radeon RX 5700

Intro

The Radeon HD 3650 makes use of a 55 nm design. AMD has set the core speed at 725 MHz. The GDDR4 RAM works at a speed of 800 MHz on this specific card. It features 120(24x5) SPUs as well as 8 Texture Address Units and 4 ROPs.

Compare that to the Radeon RX 5700, which has GPU core speed of 1465 MHz, and 8096 MB of GDDR6 RAM running at 1750 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is comprised of 2304 Stream Processors, 144 Texture Address Units, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon RX 5700 should in theory be quite a bit better than the Radeon HD 3650 overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 458752 MB/sec
Radeon HD 3650 25600 MB/sec
Difference: 433152 (1692%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5700 should be much (approximately 3537%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 3650. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 210960 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 3650 5800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 205160 (3537%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 5700 should be quite a bit (about 3133%) faster with regards to AA than the Radeon HD 3650, and will be able to handle higher screen resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 93760 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 3650 2900 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 90860 (3133%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface in one second. It is calculated by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card can possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
