GeForce RTX 2080 vs Radeon HD 5570

Intro

The GeForce RTX 2080 uses a 12 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 1515 MHz. The GDDR6 memory is set to run at a frequency of 1750 MHz on this specific model. It features 2944 SPUs along with 184 Texture Address Units and 64 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 5570, which has a clock speed of 650 MHz and a DDR3 memory frequency of 900 MHz. It also uses a 128-bit bus, and uses a 40 nm design. It is made up of 400(80x5) SPUs, 20 TAUs, and 8 ROPs.

Radeon HD 5570 43 Watts
GeForce RTX 2080 215 Watts
Difference: 172 Watts (400%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the GeForce RTX 2080 should perform a lot faster than the Radeon HD 5570 in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 458752 MB/sec
Radeon HD 5570 28800 MB/sec
Difference: 429952 (1493%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2080 is a lot (approximately 2044%) better at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 5570. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 278760 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 5570 13000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 265760 (2044%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 2080 is a better choice, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 96960 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 5570 5200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 91760 (1765%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
