GeForce GT 440 3GB vs GeForce GTX Titan

Intro

The GeForce GT 440 3GB features core clock speeds of 594 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 3072 MB of GDDR3 memory. It features 144 SPUs as well as 24 TAUs and 24 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the GeForce GTX Titan, which makes use of a 28 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core frequency at 837 MHz. The GDDR5 memory works at a speed of 1502 MHz on this specific model. It features 2688 SPUs as well as 224 Texture Address Units and 48 ROPs.

GeForce GT 440 3GB 56 Watts
GeForce GTX Titan 250 Watts
Difference: 194 Watts (346%)

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce GTX Titan, in theory, should be much faster than the GeForce GT 440 3GB overall. (explain)

GeForce GTX Titan 288384 MB/sec
GeForce GT 440 3GB 43200 MB/sec
Difference: 245184 (568%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX Titan should be a lot (more or less 1215%) better at AF than the GeForce GT 440 3GB. (explain)

GeForce GTX Titan 187488 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 440 3GB 14256 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 173232 (1215%)

Pixel Rate

If using high levels of AA is important to you, then the GeForce GTX Titan is superior to the GeForce GT 440 3GB, by far. (explain)

GeForce GTX Titan 40176 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 440 3GB 14256 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 25920 (182%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface within a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
