GeForce GTX 560 vs Radeon HD 6750 1GB

Intro

The GeForce GTX 560 makes use of a 40 nm design. nVidia has set the core frequency at 810 MHz. The GDDR5 memory works at a speed of 1001 MHz on this card. It features 336 SPUs along with 56 Texture Address Units and 32 ROPs.

Compare that to the Radeon HD 6750 1GB, which uses a 40 nm design. AMD has set the core speed at 725 MHz. The GDDR5 memory runs at a speed of 1000 MHz on this specific card. It features 720 SPUs as well as 36 TAUs and 16 ROPs.

Radeon HD 6750 1GB 86 Watts
GeForce GTX 560 150 Watts
Difference: 64 Watts (74%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the GeForce GTX 560 should theoretically be quite a bit superior to the Radeon HD 6750 1GB in general. (explain)

GeForce GTX 560 128128 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6750 1GB 64000 MB/sec
Difference: 64128 (100%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 560 will be much (approximately 74%) more effective at AF than the Radeon HD 6750 1GB. (explain)

GeForce GTX 560 45360 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6750 1GB 26100 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 19260 (74%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 560 is the winner, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce GTX 560 25920 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6750 1GB 11600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 14320 (123%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface within a second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
