Compare any two graphics cards:
GeForce 8800 GTX vs Radeon HD 5770
IntroThe GeForce 8800 GTX comes with a GPU core speed of 575 MHz, and the 768 MB of GDDR3 memory runs at 900 MHz through a 384-bit bus. It also is made up of 128 SPUs, 64 TAUs, and 24 Raster Operation Units.Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 5770, which features core speeds of 850 MHz on the GPU, and 1200 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 800(160x5) SPUs as well as 40 Texture Address Units and 16 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical BenchmarksPower Consumption (Max TDP)
Memory BandwidthIn theory, the GeForce 8800 GTX will be 13% quicker than the Radeon HD 5770 in general, because of its higher bandwidth. (explain)
Texel RateThe GeForce 8800 GTX will be a little bit (approximately 8%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 5770. (explain)
Pixel RateThe GeForce 8800 GTX will be a small bit (more or less 1%) better at FSAA than the Radeon HD 5770, and also should be capable of handling higher screen resolutions more effectively. (explain)
Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit. Price Comparison

Display Specifications
Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in a second. It's calculated by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions. Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second. Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card could possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.

The poor little GeForce got pwned by the Radeon.
ATI is at best's
This is a good review of its comparison of performance. GREAT! Radeon RULES!

This isn't a fair comparison, a 5770 IS better than the 8800 GTX, but the GTX came in 2006, and the 5770 came in 2009, why someone would cheer AMD with this comparison?? It's stupid.
I'll cheer any modern car because is better than the old Ford Model T, because they are so 'similar"(sarcasm).
Is not my problem with AMD, I have my Phenom II X6, my problem is with the lack of objectivity and the excess of stupidity of the comments.
Fausto, it does count. They still sell those old 9800GTX cards new, and they cost as much as 5770s.
If they drop the 9800GTXs down to say, $60-70 range, THEN you can say it's not fair. Right now nVidia is pricing them as equals. And they clearly aren't.
I don't think the 5770 is quite the much faster then the 8800GTX, More like 10 to 15%, not 30%. But it is still pretty impressive that the 8800GTX still holds up, even in 2011. It'll be truly amazing if the 8800GTX is able to run BF3 at high settings.
Fausto, Freedom. Yes it does count. It is valid to compare anything with anything.
What is unwise is to then extrapolate that comparision to compare AMD with Nvidia, as Grant did. Lets face it Nvidia has also released many newer cards that are much faster & cheaper than its older 8800GTX model.
Well,if thats fair lets compare my old 8500 GT to a X900 XT 🙂
I mean, guys, come on.. the 8800 GTX is three years older and still keeps up! Isnt that a win now or what?
Considering I just picked up an 8800GTX card because someone owed me $20, I couldn't be happier.
Should make a good PhysX card for my next rig =D
This is not a fair comparison. I didn't even have to see the results to know that the geforce was being bullied.
Just so you know i have the 8800gtx its the good old extinct BFG special edition...and yes it runs BF3 at high settings, it ouperforms the 4870 which is the rival for its time...regarding the 5770 is indeed a good card but its a lot more recent but get your facts straight... lol its head-on with a 4870 ( win loses and draws on many things ) , so if my 8800gtx beats it... guess what it also beast the "champion" , wins draws loses in different situations , its 2012 now , is it what a 7 years card? running everything on high settings , no-antiliasing or anisotropic but im no enthusiast or mentally ill, gaming with great performance graphics-wise yes its a win ...
its just proves that you don't need to buy a high end card- when the 8800 came out it retailed at around 600, 3 years later a card costing 140 outperforms it albeit slightly.. i just got me a 6770, and i am not upgrading for the next 2 years.. that's if ill be gaming by then. if i wont ill stick to my card for at least five years.. and windows 8 is only dx11.1 so i dont think ill be loosing out on much.
this comparison is to show old vs new ,how far we've come .Here we have an entree card vs the old high end standard .Price new $600 vs $140 wow
shows how much we get for our dollar now EXCELLENT !! I for one love it ,lower power price
great bang for our buck ! Even at $200 wow the performance increases ,either brand 🙂
we use this card in our office computer that is used to run a couple of displays (one is full hd 52" tv) and occasionally use it to play games. had 8800gtx before and the performance afer upgrading to 5770 is massive, yet the card is quiter and performs better
[...] GeForce 8800 GTX vs Radeon HD 5770 – Performance Comparison …Compare those specs to the GeForce GTX 570, which has core speeds of 732 MHz on the GPU, and 950 MHz on the 1280 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 480 … [...]
HD5770 obvioulsy crushes the 8800GTX, and stupid nvidia fanboys still say "o well HD5770 wins by just a little 15", when clearly HD5770 wipers the floor with 8800GTX... LMAO
