GeForce GTX 550 Ti vs Radeon HD 3650

Intro

The GeForce GTX 550 Ti has a GPU core speed of 900 MHz, and the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory runs at 1026 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is made up of 192 SPUs, 32 TAUs, and 24 ROPs.

Compare all that to the Radeon HD 3650, which has a GPU core clock speed of 725 MHz, and 1024 MB of GDDR4 RAM running at 800 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also features 120(24x5) Stream Processors, 8 Texture Address Units, and 4 Raster Operation Units.

GeForce GTX 550 Ti 116 Watts
Difference: 38 Watts (49%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the GeForce GTX 550 Ti should perform a lot faster than the Radeon HD 3650 overall. (explain)

GeForce GTX 550 Ti 98496 MB/sec
Radeon HD 3650 25600 MB/sec
Difference: 72896 (285%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 550 Ti is quite a bit (about 397%) better at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 3650. (explain)

GeForce GTX 550 Ti 28800 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 3650 5800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 23000 (397%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 550 Ti should be a lot (more or less 645%) faster with regards to anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 3650, and also able to handle higher screen resolutions more effectively. (explain)

GeForce GTX 550 Ti 21600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 3650 2900 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 18700 (645%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in one second. It's worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
