GeForce GT 1030 vs GeForce RTX 4070 Ti

Intro

The GeForce GT 1030 comes with core speeds of 1265 MHz on the GPU, and 1502 MHz on the 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 384 SPUs as well as 32 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, which uses a 4 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 2310 MHz. The GDDR6X memory runs at a frequency of 1313 MHz on this model. It features 7680 SPUs as well as 240 TAUs and 80 Rasterization Operator Units.

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti should in theory be much superior to the GeForce GT 1030 in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 516096 MB/sec
GeForce GT 1030 49152 MB/sec
Difference: 466944 (950%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti should be a lot (approximately 1270%) more effective at texture filtering than the GeForce GT 1030. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 554400 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 1030 40480 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 513920 (1270%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is a lot (approximately 813%) more effective at anti-aliasing than the GeForce GT 1030, and capable of handling higher resolutions better. (explain)

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 184800 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 1030 20240 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 164560 (813%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
