Radeon R7 370 2G vs Radeon RX 7900 XT

Intro

The Radeon R7 370 2G comes with a GPU core speed of 975 MHz, and the 2048 MB of GDDR5 RAM is set to run at 1400 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is made up of 1024 SPUs, 64 TAUs, and 32 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 7900 XT, which uses a 5 nm design. AMD has set the core speed at 1500 MHz. The GDDR6 memory works at a speed of 2500 MHz on this particular model. It features 5376 SPUs along with 336 TAUs and 192 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon R7 370 2G 110 Watts
Radeon RX 7900 XT 300 Watts
Difference: 190 Watts (173%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon RX 7900 XT should in theory be a lot better than the Radeon R7 370 2G overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XT 819200 MB/sec
Radeon R7 370 2G 179200 MB/sec
Difference: 640000 (357%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 7900 XT should be quite a bit (approximately 708%) more effective at AF than the Radeon R7 370 2G. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XT 504000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R7 370 2G 62400 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 441600 (708%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon RX 7900 XT is superior to the Radeon R7 370 2G, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XT 288000 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R7 370 2G 31200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 256800 (823%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in one second. It's worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
