GeForce GTX 1630 vs GeForce GTX 965M

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1630 features a core clock frequency of 1740 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 1500 MHz. It also makes use of a 64-bit bus, and makes use of a 12 nm design. It features 512 SPUs, 32 TAUs, and 16 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the GeForce GTX 965M, which has clock speeds of 944 MHz on the GPU, and 1000 MHz on the 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 1024 SPUs as well as 64 Texture Address Units and 32 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 965M 60 Watts
GeForce GTX 1630 75 Watts
Difference: 15 Watts (25%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the GeForce GTX 1630 should perform much faster than the GeForce GTX 965M in general. (explain)

GeForce GTX 1630 98304 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 965M 64000 MB/sec
Difference: 34304 (54%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 965M should be just a bit (approximately 9%) better at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTX 1630. (explain)

GeForce GTX 965M 60416 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 55680 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 4736 (9%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 965M is a little bit (more or less 9%) faster with regards to AA than the GeForce GTX 1630, and also will be able to handle higher screen resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

GeForce GTX 965M 30208 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 27840 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 2368 (9%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
