GeForce GTX 470 vs Radeon RX 6750 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 470 makes use of a 40 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core frequency at 607 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM runs at a frequency of 837 MHz on this specific card. It features 448 SPUs as well as 56 TAUs and 40 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 6750 XT, which has core clock speeds of 2150 MHz on the GPU, and 2250 MHz on the 12288 MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 2560 SPUs as well as 160 TAUs and 64 ROPs.

GeForce GTX 470 215 Watts
Radeon RX 6750 XT 250 Watts
Difference: 35 Watts (16%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon RX 6750 XT should theoretically be much better than the GeForce GTX 470 in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 442368 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 470 133920 MB/sec
Difference: 308448 (230%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT will be a lot (approximately 912%) better at AF than the GeForce GTX 470. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 344000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 470 33992 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 310008 (912%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT is quite a bit (about 467%) faster with regards to AA than the GeForce GTX 470, and also will be able to handle higher screen resolutions while still performing well. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 137600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 470 24280 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 113320 (467%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface within a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
