GeForce GTX 580 vs Radeon RX 6750 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 580 makes use of a 40 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core frequency at 772 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM is set to run at a speed of 1002 MHz on this particular model. It features 512 SPUs as well as 64 Texture Address Units and 48 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare that to the Radeon RX 6750 XT, which comes with core clock speeds of 2150 MHz on the GPU, and 2250 MHz on the 12288 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 2560 SPUs along with 160 Texture Address Units and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 580 244 Watts
Radeon RX 6750 XT 250 Watts
Difference: 6 Watts (2%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon RX 6750 XT should perform a lot faster than the GeForce GTX 580 overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 442368 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 580 192384 MB/sec
Difference: 249984 (130%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT will be much (about 596%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GTX 580. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 344000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 580 49408 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 294592 (596%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6750 XT is superior to the GeForce GTX 580, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 137600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 580 37056 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 100544 (271%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
