Geforce GTX 680 vs Radeon RX 6750 XT

Intro

The Geforce GTX 680 has core clock speeds of 1006 MHz on the GPU, and 1502 MHz on the 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 1536 SPUs as well as 128 TAUs and 32 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 6750 XT, which uses a 7 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 2150 MHz. The GDDR6 memory runs at a frequency of 2250 MHz on this particular card. It features 2560 SPUs as well as 160 Texture Address Units and 64 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Geforce GTX 680 195 Watts
Radeon RX 6750 XT 250 Watts
Difference: 55 Watts (28%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon RX 6750 XT is 130% quicker than the Geforce GTX 680 in general, because of its higher data rate. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 442368 MB/sec
Geforce GTX 680 192256 MB/sec
Difference: 250112 (130%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT should be a lot (more or less 167%) better at anisotropic filtering than the Geforce GTX 680. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 344000 Mtexels/sec
Geforce GTX 680 128768 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 215232 (167%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6750 XT is a better choice, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 137600 Mpixels/sec
Geforce GTX 680 32192 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 105408 (327%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in one second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card could possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
