GeForce GTX 550 Ti vs Radeon RX 6650 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 550 Ti has a GPU core clock speed of 900 MHz, and the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory runs at 1026 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also features 192 Stream Processors, 32 TAUs, and 24 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 6650 XT, which comes with a clock frequency of 2055 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 2190 MHz. It also features a 128-bit bus, and uses a 7 nm design. It features 2048 SPUs, 128 TAUs, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 550 Ti 116 Watts
Radeon RX 6650 XT 176 Watts
Difference: 60 Watts (52%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon RX 6650 XT will be 191% faster than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti in general, because of its greater bandwidth. (explain)

Radeon RX 6650 XT 287072 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 550 Ti 98496 MB/sec
Difference: 188576 (191%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6650 XT should be quite a bit (about 813%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti. (explain)

Radeon RX 6650 XT 263040 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 550 Ti 28800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 234240 (813%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6650 XT is superior to the GeForce GTX 550 Ti, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 6650 XT 131520 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 550 Ti 21600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 109920 (509%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in a second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card could possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
