Radeon HD 7770 vs Radeon RX 6650 XT

Intro

The Radeon HD 7770 features a GPU core speed of 1000 MHz, and the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory runs at 1125 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is comprised of 640 SPUs, 40 Texture Address Units, and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 6650 XT, which has core speeds of 2055 MHz on the GPU, and 2190 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 2048 SPUs as well as 128 TAUs and 64 ROPs.

Radeon HD 7770 80 Watts
Radeon RX 6650 XT 176 Watts
Difference: 96 Watts (120%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Radeon RX 6650 XT should in theory be a lot better than the Radeon HD 7770 in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 6650 XT 287072 MB/sec
Radeon HD 7770 72000 MB/sec
Difference: 215072 (299%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6650 XT should be quite a bit (more or less 558%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 7770. (explain)

Radeon RX 6650 XT 263040 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 7770 40000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 223040 (558%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6650 XT is superior to the Radeon HD 7770, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 6650 XT 131520 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 7770 16000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 115520 (722%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in a second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
