GeForce GTX 650 Ti vs Radeon RX 6500 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 650 Ti comes with a GPU core clock speed of 928 MHz, and the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM runs at 1350 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is comprised of 768 SPUs, 64 TAUs, and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 6500 XT, which uses a 6 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 2200 MHz. The GDDR6 RAM is set to run at a frequency of 2250 MHz on this model. It features 1024 SPUs along with 64 Texture Address Units and 32 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 6500 XT 107 Watts
GeForce GTX 650 Ti 110 Watts
Difference: 3 Watts (3%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon RX 6500 XT is 71% quicker than the GeForce GTX 650 Ti in general, due to its greater data rate. (explain)

Radeon RX 6500 XT 147456 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 650 Ti 86400 MB/sec
Difference: 61056 (71%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6500 XT will be much (about 137%) better at texture filtering than the GeForce GTX 650 Ti. (explain)

Radeon RX 6500 XT 140800 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 650 Ti 59392 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 81408 (137%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6500 XT is quite a bit (about 374%) more effective at AA than the GeForce GTX 650 Ti, and will be able to handle higher resolutions more effectively. (explain)

Radeon RX 6500 XT 70400 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 650 Ti 14848 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 55552 (374%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in a second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
