GeForce GTX 780 Ti vs GeForce RTX 3080 Ti

Intro

The GeForce GTX 780 Ti has core speeds of 875 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 3072 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 2880 SPUs along with 240 TAUs and 48 ROPs.

Compare that to the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, which has a GPU core clock speed of 1365 MHz, and 12288 MB of GDDR6X memory set to run at 1188 MHz through a 384-bit bus. It also is comprised of 10240 SPUs, 320 Texture Address Units, and 112 Raster Operation Units.

GeForce GTX 780 Ti 250 Watts
GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 350 Watts
Difference: 100 Watts (40%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will be 178% quicker than the GeForce GTX 780 Ti in general, because of its greater bandwidth. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 934297 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 780 Ti 336000 MB/sec
Difference: 598297 (178%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will be quite a bit (about 108%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce GTX 780 Ti. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 436800 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 780 Ti 210000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 226800 (108%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is superior to the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, by far. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 152880 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 780 Ti 42000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 110880 (264%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
