Radeon R7 360 vs Radeon RX 6800 XT

Intro

The Radeon R7 360 comes with a GPU core speed of 1050 MHz, and the 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory runs at 1625 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also features 768 Stream Processors, 48 TAUs, and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 6800 XT, which has GPU core speed of 1825 MHz, and 16384 MB of GDDR6 RAM set to run at 2000 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is made up of 4608 Stream Processors, 288 Texture Address Units, and 128 Raster Operation Units.

Difference: 200 Watts (200%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 6800 XT, in theory, should perform quite a bit faster than the Radeon R7 360 overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 524288 MB/sec
Radeon R7 360 104000 MB/sec
Difference: 420288 (404%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6800 XT should be much (approximately 943%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon R7 360. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 525600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R7 360 50400 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 475200 (943%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6800 XT is superior to the Radeon R7 360, by a large margin. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 233600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R7 360 16800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 216800 (1290%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
