GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER vs Radeon R7 M265

Intro

The GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER has a GPU core speed of 1650 MHz, and the 8192 MB of GDDR6 RAM runs at 1937 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is comprised of 3072 SPUs, 192 Texture Address Units, and 64 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon R7 M265, which has a core clock frequency of 725 MHz and a DDR3 memory frequency of 1000 MHz. It also makes use of a 128-bit memory bus, and uses a 28 nm design. It is made up of 384 SPUs, 24 TAUs, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER should theoretically be a lot superior to the Radeon R7 M265 overall. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 507904 MB/sec
Radeon R7 M265 32000 MB/sec
Difference: 475904 (1487%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER is a lot (approximately 1721%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon R7 M265. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 316800 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R7 M265 17400 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 299400 (1721%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER will be quite a bit (more or less 1721%) faster with regards to full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon R7 M265, and also should be able to handle higher resolutions better. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 105600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R7 M265 5800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 99800 (1721%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in a second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
