GeForce 820M vs GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER

Intro

The GeForce 820M uses a 28 nm design. nVidia has set the core frequency at 719 MHz. The DDR3 RAM works at a frequency of 1000 MHz on this specific card. It features 96 SPUs along with 16 TAUs and 4 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER, which has core speeds of 1650 MHz on the GPU, and 1937 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 3072 SPUs along with 192 TAUs and 64 Rasterization Operator Units.

GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 250 Watts
Difference: 235 Watts (1567%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER should theoretically be much better than the GeForce 820M overall. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 507904 MB/sec
GeForce 820M 16000 MB/sec
Difference: 491904 (3074%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER will be a lot (more or less 2654%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the GeForce 820M. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 316800 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 820M 11504 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 305296 (2654%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER is superior to the GeForce 820M, and very much so. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 105600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 820M 2876 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 102724 (3572%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in a second. It is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
