GeForce GTX 570 vs Radeon RX 5600 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 570 uses a 40 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core speed at 732 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM is set to run at a frequency of 950 MHz on this particular model. It features 480 SPUs along with 60 Texture Address Units and 40 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 5600 XT, which features a core clock frequency of 1375 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 1500 MHz. It also uses a 192-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 7 nm design. It features 2304 SPUs, 144 Texture Address Units, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 160 Watts
GeForce GTX 570 219 Watts
Difference: 59 Watts (37%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 5600 XT should in theory be quite a bit faster than the GeForce GTX 570 in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 344064 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 570 152000 MB/sec
Difference: 192064 (126%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5600 XT is quite a bit (about 351%) more effective at AF than the GeForce GTX 570. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 198000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 570 43920 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 154080 (351%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 5600 XT will be a lot (approximately 201%) better at AA than the GeForce GTX 570, and should be able to handle higher resolutions while still performing well. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 88000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 570 29280 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 58720 (201%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
