Radeon R9 Fury X vs Radeon RX 5600 XT

Intro

The Radeon R9 Fury X features a GPU core speed of 1050 MHz, and the 4096 MB of HBM memory is set to run at 500 MHz through a 4096-bit bus. It also features 4096 Stream Processors, 256 TAUs, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon RX 5600 XT, which comes with core speeds of 1375 MHz on the GPU, and 1500 MHz on the 6144 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 2304 SPUs as well as 144 Texture Address Units and 64 ROPs.

Radeon RX 5600 XT 160 Watts
Radeon R9 Fury X 275 Watts
Difference: 115 Watts (72%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the Radeon R9 Fury X should perform a lot faster than the Radeon RX 5600 XT in general. (explain)

Radeon R9 Fury X 512000 MB/sec
Radeon RX 5600 XT 344064 MB/sec
Difference: 167936 (49%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R9 Fury X should be a lot (about 36%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the Radeon RX 5600 XT. (explain)

Radeon R9 Fury X 268800 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 5600 XT 198000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 70800 (36%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon RX 5600 XT is superior to the Radeon R9 Fury X, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 88000 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R9 Fury X 67200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 20800 (31%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
