GeForce 920M vs Radeon RX 5600 XT

Intro

The GeForce 920M features clock speeds of 954 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 2048 MB of DDR3 memory. It features 384 SPUs along with 32 TAUs and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare that to the Radeon RX 5600 XT, which makes use of a 7 nm design. AMD has set the core frequency at 1375 MHz. The GDDR6 RAM works at a frequency of 1500 MHz on this specific card. It features 2304 SPUs as well as 144 Texture Address Units and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 5600 XT should in theory perform a lot faster than the GeForce 920M overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 344064 MB/sec
GeForce 920M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 329664 (2289%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5600 XT will be a lot (more or less 549%) more effective at AF than the GeForce 920M. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 198000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 920M 30528 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 167472 (549%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 5600 XT is superior to the GeForce 920M, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 5600 XT 88000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 920M 7632 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 80368 (1053%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
