GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB vs GeForce RTX 2080 Ti

Intro

The GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB comes with core clock speeds of 550 MHz on the GPU, and 850 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 96 SPUs along with 32 Texture Address Units and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all that to the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, which has a GPU core clock speed of 1350 MHz, and 11264 MB of GDDR6 memory running at 1750 MHz through a 352-bit bus. It also features 4352 SPUs, 272 Texture Address Units, and 88 Raster Operation Units.

GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 250 Watts
Difference: 180 Watts (257%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti should theoretically be a lot superior to the GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB overall. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 630784 MB/sec
GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB 54400 MB/sec
Difference: 576384 (1060%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti should be quite a bit (more or less 1986%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 367200 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB 17600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 349600 (1986%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is the winner, by far. (explain)

GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 118800 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB 4400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 114400 (2600%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in one second. It's worked out by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
