GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB vs Geforce GTX 1080 Ti

Intro

The GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB features a core clock frequency of 550 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 850 MHz. It also features a 128-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 40 nm design. It is comprised of 96 SPUs, 32 TAUs, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specifications to the Geforce GTX 1080 Ti, which uses a 16 nm design. nVidia has clocked the core frequency at 1480 MHz. The GDDR5X memory is set to run at a frequency of 1376 MHz on this particular model. It features 3584 SPUs along with 224 TAUs and 88 ROPs.

Theoretically speaking, the Geforce GTX 1080 Ti should perform quite a bit faster than the GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB overall. (explain)

Geforce GTX 1080 Ti 495616 MB/sec
GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB 54400 MB/sec
Difference: 441216 (811%)

Texel Rate

The Geforce GTX 1080 Ti is much (about 1784%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB. (explain)

Geforce GTX 1080 Ti 331520 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB 17600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 313920 (1784%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Geforce GTX 1080 Ti is the winner, by far. (explain)

Geforce GTX 1080 Ti 130240 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 240 GDDR5 1GB 4400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 125840 (2860%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
