Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon R9 285 is 307% faster than the GeForce GT 440 3GB overall, because of its higher bandwidth. (explain)

Radeon R9 285 176000 MB/sec
GeForce GT 440 3GB 43200 MB/sec
Difference: 132800 (307%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R9 285 will be much (more or less 621%) more effective at texture filtering than the GeForce GT 440 3GB. (explain)

Radeon R9 285 102816 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 440 3GB 14256 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 88560 (621%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon R9 285 will be a lot (about 106%) more effective at FSAA than the GeForce GT 440 3GB, and able to handle higher resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

Radeon R9 285 29376 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 440 3GB 14256 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 15120 (106%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in one second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
