Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB vs Radeon R9 M370X

Intro

The Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB has a GPU core speed of 750 MHz, and the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM is set to run at 900 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also is comprised of 160 SPUs, 8 TAUs, and 4 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon R9 M370X, which features core clock speeds of 800 MHz on the GPU, and 1125 MHz on the 2048 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 640 SPUs along with 40 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon R9 M370X should theoretically be much faster than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB in general. (explain)

Radeon R9 M370X 72000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 28800 MB/sec
Difference: 43200 (150%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R9 M370X is quite a bit (approximately 433%) more effective at AF than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB. (explain)

Radeon R9 M370X 32000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 6000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 26000 (433%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon R9 M370X is superior to the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB, by a large margin. (explain)

Radeon R9 M370X 12800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 3000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 9800 (327%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card could possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
