Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB vs Radeon R5 M330

Intro

The Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB features a GPU clock speed of 800 MHz, and the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM runs at 1000 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 480 SPUs, 24 TAUs, and 8 ROPs.

Compare that to the Radeon R5 M330, which features a clock speed of 1030 MHz and a DDR3 memory speed of 900 MHz. It also features a 64-bit bus, and makes use of a 28 nm design. It features 320 SPUs, 20 Texture Address Units, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB should in theory be quite a bit faster than the Radeon R5 M330 overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 64000 MB/sec
Radeon R5 M330 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 49600 (344%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R5 M330 will be a bit (more or less 7%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB. (explain)

Radeon R5 M330 20600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 19200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 1400 (7%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon R5 M330 is the winner, by far. (explain)

Radeon R5 M330 8240 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 6400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 1840 (29%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in a second. It is worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
