GeForce 820M vs Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB

Intro

The GeForce 820M has core speeds of 719 MHz on the GPU, and 1000 MHz on the 2048 MB of DDR3 RAM. It features 96 SPUs as well as 16 TAUs and 4 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB, which comes with GPU core speed of 650 MHz, and 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM set to run at 1000 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also features 480 SPUs, 24 TAUs, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

GeForce 820M 15 Watts
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 50 Watts
Difference: 35 Watts (233%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB should perform quite a bit faster than the GeForce 820M overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 64000 MB/sec
GeForce 820M 16000 MB/sec
Difference: 48000 (300%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB is a lot (about 36%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce 820M. (explain)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 15600 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 820M 11504 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 4096 (36%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB will be quite a bit (more or less 81%) better at FSAA than the GeForce 820M, and will be capable of handling higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 2GB 5200 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 820M 2876 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 2324 (81%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in one second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
