GeForce 810M vs Geforce GTX 770

Intro

The GeForce 810M has clock speeds of 738 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 1024 MB of DDR3 RAM. It features 48 SPUs along with 8 TAUs and 4 ROPs.

Compare all that to the Geforce GTX 770, which comes with GPU clock speed of 1046 MHz, and 2048 MB of GDDR5 RAM set to run at 1753 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also features 1536 SPUs, 128 Texture Address Units, and 32 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce 810M 15 Watts
Geforce GTX 770 230 Watts
Difference: 215 Watts (1433%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Geforce GTX 770 should in theory be much superior to the GeForce 810M overall. (explain)

Geforce GTX 770 224384 MB/sec
GeForce 810M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 209984 (1458%)

Texel Rate

The Geforce GTX 770 is quite a bit (about 2168%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the GeForce 810M. (explain)

Geforce GTX 770 133888 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 810M 5904 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 127984 (2168%)

Pixel Rate

The Geforce GTX 770 is quite a bit (approximately 1034%) better at AA than the GeForce 810M, and should be able to handle higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Geforce GTX 770 33472 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 810M 2952 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 30520 (1034%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface within a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card can possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
