GeForce 810M vs Radeon R9 390 8G

Intro

The GeForce 810M features clock speeds of 738 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 1024 MB of DDR3 RAM. It features 48 SPUs as well as 8 TAUs and 4 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon R9 390 8G, which has clock speeds of 1000 MHz on the GPU, and 1500 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 2560 SPUs as well as 160 TAUs and 64 ROPs.

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon R9 390 8G should be quite a bit faster than the GeForce 810M in general. (explain)

Radeon R9 390 8G 384000 MB/sec
GeForce 810M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 369600 (2567%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R9 390 8G should be much (more or less 2610%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the GeForce 810M. (explain)

Radeon R9 390 8G 160000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 810M 5904 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 154096 (2610%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon R9 390 8G should be a lot (about 2068%) faster with regards to full screen anti-aliasing than the GeForce 810M, and also should be capable of handling higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Radeon R9 390 8G 64000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 810M 2952 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 61048 (2068%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card could possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
