Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB vs Radeon R7 M260

Intro

The Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB has a clock frequency of 800 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 1000 MHz. It also features a 128-bit memory bus, and uses a 40 nm design. It is made up of 480 SPUs, 24 TAUs, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon R7 M260, which features a GPU core clock speed of 715 MHz, and 2048 MB of DDR3 RAM set to run at 1000 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also features 384 SPUs, 24 TAUs, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB should theoretically perform a lot faster than the Radeon R7 M260 overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 64000 MB/sec
Radeon R7 M260 16000 MB/sec
Difference: 48000 (300%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB is a bit (more or less 12%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Radeon R7 M260. (explain)

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 19200 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R7 M260 17160 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 2040 (12%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB is superior to the Radeon R7 M260, but not by far. (explain)

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 6400 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R7 M260 5720 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 680 (12%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
